Hello, I am Michele

Background

I have worked in schools for nearly ten years and have been an English teacher for five of those. I re-trained as a teacher with Teach First after a career as a director in publishing, project management and event delivery.

Qualifications

I have an honours degree in English and History from Sheffield University and two post-graduate qualifications; a diploma in Marketing Communications from the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a PGDE (Post Graduate Diploma in Education) from UCL.

Teaching experience

As a teacher, I have taught from Year 7 up to GCSE. At GCSE, I have taught many texts several times. While the majority of my experience is with the AQA Examination Board, I am qualified to teach every exam board. The skills are consistent across examinations and I am highly qualified in teaching those skills.

In my last school, I was the whole school literacy lead, a school priority, which involved whole school reading, speaking and listening together with targeted interventions for those students who were experiencing barriers to improving their reading age and accessing the curriculum.

Teaching stylestyle

In terms of my teaching style, I am encouraging and enjoy finding the humour in the teaching experience. Taking exams is a serious business; students must fulfil their potential. However, being objective-focused and enjoying yourself should not be mutually exclusive! I work hard in my sessions to ensure that students leave me empowered to do their best every day.

Safeguarding

I have an enhanced DBS which was renewed in May 2024. I tutor students in the Tutor Study at the top of my house; a bespoke space for tutoring which can accommodate up to three students at one time. Parents are actively encouraged to come and view the Tutor Room and my DBS certificate at any time.

Texts

I have experience with the AQA Literature and Language curriculum but am qualified to teach any text and with any exam board. A small sample of the texts that I have taught or planned for are below.
